Screen saver not coming on

Can anybody explain why the screen saver never seems to kick in on our computer?

We have the free versions of Zone Alarm and Avast and I was wondering if these might have something to do with the problem. Even when nobody is doing anything on the computer, it seems to be making the clicking and whirring noises related to something going on in there.

Are you sure you have them enabled in the contol panel (display)? Is the time set for a short or long delay before kicking in?

Zone Alarm or Avast! won't be a problem
