I have a firewire video cam but my computer does not have a firewire port. Is there any device that will convert from firewire to USB?

Best way would be to add a fire wire card via a spare pci slot if your pc has one.
you know I was sure the answer to this would be yes, but on looking for a link to one I couldn't find any, sure someone will come along and find one though, however if it is a desktop then firewire cards are available quite cheap the link below will give you a couple of firewire ports and a few more usb thrown in too.

None will do the job properly.

While they look the same, they're meant for doing fundamentally different things and have totally different schemas and protocols.

The above has the best idea: buy a PCI card if you have a desktop machine, or a cardbus or expresscard adapter if you have a laptop.

You'll find them very cheap (~6 for PCI), and easy to install. (PCI does involve taking off the case though.)
