My new Garmin sat nav takes me to incorrect destinations - 50 miles out in one case! I have checked that the correct postcode was keyed in. Does anyone know how this can happen?

depends where you go

rural postcodes can cover huge areas ... in a town ... a tower can have a different postcode for each floor.

I always look on autoroute or google just to see the overall route.

flying blind is inevitable in towns .... In north yorkshire you can do 30 miles+ round the valley to get to two houses less than a mile apart as the crow flies.

then again ... it could be that the maps are inaccurate ....
or it's faulyt
done it again ......!!

I was going to add ...I always use full address wherever possible, road crossings if not .... and postcode as a last resort

Excuse me please Pete.

Just want to say hello to Neildownx. It's been a while since I last saw you on here. Hope you are good and well.
Great to see you back! xx
it's peckforton castle, between peckforton and beeston
not sure if this info will help with your query but I have a Garmin street pilot i3 & it was showing my starting location about 160 miles from where I live although I had never been anywhere near this area & nobody had borrowed the unit either! I emailed Garmin & they promptly replied telling me to plug the unit in to the ciggie lighter & leave it on for a couple of hours & it should reset. I really didn't think this would help but done as they told me & hey presto its up & running again & working perfectly again. Go to the Garmin site & send them an email on the appropriate link & I'm sure they will be only too pleased to help you.hope this helps
