I'm currently looking at buying a laptop and was wondering whether going for the upgrade of Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache) will really see much of a difference from the original Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5550 (1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache) without increasing the RAM.

Help would be greatly appreciated guys,

thanks

IMHO in most real world uses you probably wouldn't notice a lot of difference, if you are planing to do a lot of number crunching stuff, like encoding videos or audio there would be a slight increse in performance, but not a huge amount.

I think I'd spend my money on upgrading the ram which would make a more noticable difference.

thanks for that mate. the ram is currently 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM, do you think increasing this by another 1024MB for an extra 40 will make a noticeable difference?

cheers
Unless you are planning on running lots of memory-hungry apps simultaneously, increasing the RAM beyond 2 GB is just likely to give you a lot of unused RAM.
Depending on the make/motherboard, the T5550 will probabally overclock to about 2.2 GHz or at least 2.00 GHz quite easily so save some pennys and go for the original.
Clocking is allways an option at a later date when you feel confident and do a bit of revision.
As rojash says, over 2Gb is a waste unless you're gaming and then we start on graphics which is another story.
I agree with both above, should have really said depending on current ram may be better to upgrade that, 2gb is plenty
Did not notice this question was here.

I have answered it in computers.

sorry I'm new to answer bank and didn't see there was a computer section so posted again on there. thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated.

Finally, going for the 2GB of ram option, bearing in mind that it only comes with a Integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator X3100 graphics card, will this be powerful enough to run football manager 2008 smoothly (its the only game i play!!)
yeah easily, football manager isn't excatly a graphics intensive game
