When you watch a video on line via streaming, I notice that you can watch it over again so long as you don't close the window. Does this mean that it is stored somewhere on the computer temporarily and if so, where?

It's stored in one of your your temp folders

C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR-NAME>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

or

C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR-NAME>\Local Settings\Temp

However, if you're thinking you can grab it before it disappears, forget it. If you try to copy it while the window is open, you'll find that it's locked, and, as you say, it's automatically removed when you close the window.
