I have recently downloaded a movie via a file sharing network. The format being mov. However, when I try to play the file through quicktime, I recieve a message warning reading: "You may experience problems playing a video track...because the required compressor could not be found." now when I press continue, only the audio track plays, but the video does not and I am left with the white screen. How can I make this video run. mov. files are for quicktime?....so why should it not word. What compressor/codec for windows do I need!!!

Nobody will be able to tell you that, as nobody knows what codecs you've already got installed. Happily, there is a program that can do the business, and it's called Gspot (don't ask me why!) It can be downloaded from www.download.com and it will scan the headers of the movie file to see what codec the movie file was encoded with, then scan which codecs are on the system, then recommend sites where you can download any missing codecs. Couldn't be easier.
goto......... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=235950 for the answer...and read the faq.... basically open the file in quicktime, click continue, click on the 'window' tab in quicktime, select 'file info' and look at what 'format' was used, then 'google' it (www.google.com) to find the download.... done.....!!!!! (You would think stupid quicktime would supply all the codecs with the latest version or tell ou how to fix the problem....but no....that would be to difficult....QUICKTIME IS ****ED)
Snitter is a moron....Gspot is only for AVI, not MOVIE files..... Funy how people just blab anything before trying it......
