Can anybody recommend software for Windows XP. It's to play from a line in on the soundcard directly to the speakers? I can record and playback already but just want to use the PC and speakers as a live amplifier.
Have seen GuitarFX and ilk but these seem to be centered around mimicking Marshall amp stacks etc.

Can't see why anyone would want to

but surely a sound editor will let you monitor input .... and thus feed out to speakers?
I can't see why you'd want to either. Assuming it's a solid guitar, a major part of the timbre comes from the amp., so you're going to get a really weedy sound unless you use some kind of fx or amp. modelling software.

As my bridge-dwelling friend says, most recording software (such as Audacity) will allow you to monitor while you record, so all you need to do is start recording, then pause it, to get the instrument to play through the speakers.

Thanks guys, it's not a guitar it's a line feed. Computer / Itunes used for music playback already so this is just a different input. I will install Audacity, can't configure the live output on Audition.

Audacity functions fine as a PC based amplifier. However there is a split second delay so will switch to a regular amp.
