I have a girlfriend who lives in Mexico...pain in the ass as you can imagine! I want to be able to send her the odd text message now and again from my mobile phone to hers...I am in the UK and am with Vodafone...she lives in Mexico City and I don't know what provider she is with. Vodafone have told me to just dial +52 (mexico city code) and her number...that doesn't work...I found on a website somewhere that to dial outside of the UK you have to dial an international code (98 for mexico) then the other code (+52) then her number...that doesn't work either! I have tried combinations of the above numbers, and have missed out the first 0 of her number and tried all sorts but it either says that the message was not sent...please try later or it gets sent but comes back as failed. Does anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

You should just have to send it to: 0052 then your girlfriends number missing out the first 0. Is your phone activated for international calls etc? also is a 'pay monthly' or 'pay as you talk'?
Question Author
What's 00 for? 52 yes for mexico and missing the first 0 yes. And it's a pay as you talk...does that make a difference? I thought I only had to have it activated for abroad if I was going abroad? Thanks for the help!
The 0052 is instead of +52. Shouldn't make a difference if your phone is pay as you go or pay monthly, but I've heard of problems before with regards to international calls/texts. As far as I know you should only have to activate the international settings if you are going abroad, but you never know!

Oh right, cheers dude...I've just been checking with Vodafone...I don't need to do anything if I'm going abroad. To make this more complicated...you have to dial 044 to specify it's a mobile...but only within mexico city...if you are dialing from another state in mexico, then you don't have to! Surely that is the wrong way round? Also, her number starts with a 2! Not a 0...only a 0 if you are dialing it within the same state. Wow this is confusing...I've given your method a bash so I will have to wait and see.
Confusing! Another possibility could be: 00 44 52 then your girlfrinds number in full Or have a look on this site for some help: Country Calling Codes

Right...0052 then her number didn't work, came back to me. Now I'm gonna try 0052 for the country...then 44 for mobile, 55 for mexico city, then her number...oh...my...god!

Still doesn't work! I tried that link...it tells me to dial 005255 and then the number. With the 44 or 044, it still doesn't work. Sod it! Fu**ing mobiles! Thanks for your help anyway! ;-)
The code +44 (which is the same as 0044) is the international code for the UK, nothing to do with it being a mobile. So, someone calling the UK number 01234 567890 from anywhere abroad should dial +44 1234 567890. If you are texting or calling someone in Mexico with number 01234 567890 then you should text +52 1234 567890. You get the "+" on mobiles by either holding down the 0 for a few seconds, or pressing * or # a couple of times (depends on phone model).
