Does a PS3 play regions 1 & 2 DVD's?

HI, does anyone know if the PS3 plays region 1 & 2 dvd's? i can't find any information on it and i only have region 2 discs so can't test it.

The UK is in region 2, so assuming that is where you bought the PS3 from then your stuck to buying them from that region only.

Region 1 covers the USA where the DVD's are a lot cheaper.

Proactivity

The UK PS3 only plays region 2 DVDs, and so far I haven't found any way of getting it to play region 1 DVDs. Any mention of the PS3 being region-free is referring to the ability to play any region Playstation game.
