i have an indesign document 20 pages long saved on my laptop. i dont have a printer to connect it to. so i was wandering how i could print the document from a usb plugged into a computer which doesn't have indesign software on it and will it print a format it doesn't recognise?

Try downloading CutePDF (it's free) which installs a "virtual printer" on your PC, allowing you to "print" as a pdf file which you can then save and print out on most machines. Adobe Reader is another free download in the unlikely event that the "receiving" machine can't handle pdf files.
I've always been taught never to print straight from an indesign file. export it as a pdf then put on your memory stick and print from the pdf
