My new laptop with Vista pre-installed is driving me mad. Using Internet Explorer it keeps crashing and with Firefox it regularly freezes for ages.

Anyone found a solution to this situation?

you have to clear out the untold amounts of sh1t you don't need in the start up folder. All the stuff trying to sell you things. Mine runs much better now I've done that. It just comes clogged up with stuff you don't need.

Upgrade from Vista to XP - it's the only reliable solution :-)
rojash is right - "upgrade" is exactly the right word here.

Vista is a load of rubbish with countless bugs that Microsoft are working at a snail's pace to iron out.

Until a reliable new version of the OS becomes available, you're better off installing XP. Format the laptop and buy an XP disc.

I work for a major corporation that foolishly bought over 2100 laptops and desktops with Vista installed. The IT people are busy formattting and installing XP Pro on the lot of them.
Incidentally, although the suggestions by pcwork may solve your problems, the point is you should not have to do it.

You don't sound likke you're running any sophisticated or demanding software and the whole idea that you need to delve into device drivers, hardware, software and configuration changes is appalling when these problems have arisen through no fault of your own on a new laptop.

Well intentioned fiddling in configuration settings etc have destined many a PC to service workshops. Think carefully of the inconvenience to yourself and ask yourself if it's really worth it.
ha ha - Rojash said it for me!
