I understand the concept and have seen many now on market such as the Sony RX 500? which has twin tuners plus integral Freeview.
I understand that it records onto a hardrive like my computer and you can then chose and view from htere. but..... what I don't understand is, how can you tape onto a recordable dvd disc to keep a particulay programme? Is there a slot for this in the recorder?
Thanks

It depends what model you buy. My philips is three years old so is only anologue single tuner, but it records to hard disk and plays dvds too.

If I want to 'archive' a recording from my hard drive I can edit the recording (cut the adverts out), give it a title and then it takes only 4 or 5 minutes to burn to a disk.

I know the more up to date models are freeview twin tuner.

Other types are called PVR - personal video recorders - they record to hard disk in the way you describe, but don't have the facility to 'archive' to disk or play dvd disks. If you go for this option you have to buy a separate dvd recorder and record your recordings in real time .

That is the difference between cheaper models and top end models.

Understand what you say - plenty of twin channels around now. But don't understand when you say burn to disc.
Where do you put the recordable disc to burn to? Is there a slot in the Recorder and can you also play prerecorded DVDs thru it?
Thanks
Moggie
Yes Moggie - mine has a 'drawer' that slides out exactly like a dvd player.

It plays dvds, exactly like a dvd player, and uses the same 'slot' to archive (copy) my recordings from the hard disk to a dvd disk when I put a blank disk in.

The cheaper sorts don't play disks or copy to blank disks, but I think it is worth the extra money.
