The idea of neural networks was pioneered by Bernard Widrow in the 1950s from Stanford University, USA. A neural network is a form of artificial intelligence that imitates the way the human brain works. It uses the opposite methodology to a digital network in that instead of using computations of zeros and ones it uses processing elements or neurons. A neural network usually means a non-digital computer. A good website that goes into great detail (with several published articles) on neural networks is http://www.primenet.com/pcai/New_Home_Page/issues/
pcai_83_toc.html.
