Hi, having real trouble using this program. I can backup movies from a dvd onto my computer but from there i'm stuck. I guess the first step would be in playing the movie from these backup files -this i can't do at present, so it follows neither can i once i've burnt these to a dvd.

Any advice is much appreciated

By default, the program is set to enable burning with Nero. Just use Nero to burn the movie to a disc and you will be able to play it either on your computer or a DVD player.
It is exactly as HWKE states. You need to burn the 'backup files' to a disc.

This short tutorial on using DVD Shrink may help.

Alternatively, if you want to watch these movies on PC only and don't want to use up discs, you can extract the data as an image, e.g.

cue/bin
iso
ccd (CloneCD)
bwt (Blindwrite)
mds (Media Descriptor File)
cdi (Discjuggler)
nrg (Nero)
pdi (Instant CD/DVD)
b5t (BlindWrite 5)

You can play these images on your PC using Daemon Tools as though they had been burned to a disc.

You can download Daemon Tools here and view the user guide here
I found that using Nero while your pc is under stress a pain because sometimes your audio doesnt sync with the video well and also you need the Mpeg-4 plug in fopr nero to write to DVD which is costly.

The steps i use are dvd shrink to rip the dvd then use img tool to author the file and then use Dvd decrypter to burn it onto a disc. Makes perfect copies and its all free.

Worth noting that when you run dvd shrink disable all the subtitles and this will create a close to 100% copy.
I have not found a problem with Nero with sync, but I have the mpeg4 plug-in.
I agree with Paulst30 that the method he outlines is a very good approach and as he says, is free.
Once DVD shrink has put the files on your computer, you can write them to disc using Nero as if you were making a data disc.
It will work (I have been using this method for a long time).
When playing an image, I also use Daemon Tools (it's excellent).

If burning the files to a disc, I use DVD Shrink > Nero (I too have the mpeg4 plugin).

Before I had this plugin, I used DVD Shrink > DVD Decrypter.
I have also used DVD Decrypter with excellent results.

Thanks for all the suggestions, hope a could get a few clarifications. So, are the 'img tool' and 'dvd decrypter' that paulst30 mentions seperate programs that i will need to download?

I had hoped i could use the roxio creator program that came with my computer, but the result of making a copy of the backup (saved as an .ISO file) onto a dvd, only leaves me with the same result as when it's first saved to disk -when the icon is clicked, winodows media player trys to open it but does not recognise the .ISO extension. \\

Any ideas??
As for backup DVD, I always use Aimersoft DVD Ripper, my friends recommend it to me, very easy to use. This software can copy DVD to computer in 1:1 lossless quality, here is a guide about it
