I am new to computers, and have just bought a second hand IBM 380XD laptop, is there any way I can play dvd's on it?

If it has not got a DVD drive,then I doubt it very much.Even if you loaded DVD playing software,without a DVD drive it would be completely useless.Im not aware of any software that would allow you to play DVDs without the correct Hardware,but im certainly no expert.

Since thinkpads have ultrabays you could buy a DVD drive and replace the existing one with it. A 380 isn't fast enough to process the video though...
