Webcam not working

Every now and again, if i'm lucky, the webcam on MSN will work. Most of the time it says the camera is in use or isn't plugged in. Or, it will start to work and capture the image as a photo. I have tried unplugging the wire, shutting down computer, closing msn and going back on. It's driving me mad!

Any advice?
