Canon Printer Problem

I have a Canon i455 Bubble Jet printer which has worked faultlessly for two years on a pc. The other day it printed several colour photos but when I wanted to print a letter in black and white a blank page resulted. I have now purchased two new black cartridges and been through all the relevant help pages in Windows and the printer's own help file to no avail.
A test page print does the Window's logo which includes black and a nozzle alignment print also produces black, but no text will print in black! Help please. Peter Edward
