Quark versions US/UK

I have an Apple iBook running US version Quark 5.0 - is there nay way I can open UK version Quark 4.0 files? When I load them onto the iBook, it doesn't seem to recognise that they're Quark files at all and I can't force it to recognise them as such to open them. Is there a trick to this or do I just have to buy all-new software?

The files themselves should be cross-compatible, though I know Quark US won't run on a PC with a UK environment. However, that's the software itself, not the files... hmmm... something to do with file extensions and PC/Mac cross-compatibility perhaps?
