Graphics problems PLEASE HELP!

Hi all - here is my system spec - Pentium D 3Ghz dual core, 1Gb PC5300 (667Mhz) RAM. 120Gb sata hdd. Ok, the problems i am having is with games. They start fine and run perfectly. The problem happens when i exit the game back into Windows. Either the screen is garbled, or goes black with just the windows cursor. The only way is to restart. All the drivers are the latest ones, its not over heating and i have a good PSU. Like i say, my games (FEAR, flight sim and Oblivion) run fine for ages without a hitch... Any ideas?
