I am thinking of buying an iPod on which to store my collection of around 200 classical music CDs. My computer is a little long in the tooth and only runs Win98SE. Am I right in thinking that I need at least Win2000 / ME / XP in order to do this sort of magnitude of downloading?

You can do it as long as your hard drive is big enough to take them, if not just copy them to ipod then delete it from PC and do the next!!
If you buy an iPod look at file format WMA (Standard Windows media player files) and Apple are not compatable.

If your CDs are already on your PC the are probably in WMA rather than MP3 format so may require converting.
Another problem is that iTunes is win2000/XP only. You can use them with older computers though, with things like winamp.
I stand corrected!!
