we have found that the best thing for my baby's nappy rash is egg white!
The thing is, because it works, you only need to use it for a couple of nappies and the bum is better.
My questions are - as I am chucking out a lot of eggs - will the egg white go off if i keep it in the fridge? does it matter as no-one is eating it? can i use it again after say, three weeks? What can i do with the egg yolks? One every now and again is not enough to do anything with but i don't really want to throw them away. Can i freeze the yolk perhaps to use at a later date?

I didn't realise that this would be such a complicated thread!

This doesn't answer your question, sorry....but i'm curious...you can use egg whites for nappy rash? You just slap it on as it is?
You can freeze the yolks and they will be good for about 4 months or so...Same for the whites...egg whites freeze very well.

hi boo, yes indeedy! it was a wonderfull Ab'er who told me about a year ago. I was at my wit's end.
I just keep a pot in the fridge and smear it on the affected area. It dries and forms a kind of seal. I think that's how it works.Believe me, I had tried all kinds of creams and talcs.
I would definately recommend giving it a try. you can see a difference at the next nappy change.
I might just do that crisgal!

My little 'un (luckily) doesn't get nappy rash often, but when she does I do find that Sudacrem (sp?) is effective, but I love home remedy kinda stuff so might give it a whirl next time!

sorry to ask you a question on your own post, lol.
I have heard this about egg whites too, have never tried it, but please be aware that some infants may be allergic to eggs and so it may make the rash worse.

Boo, most people say you whisk it until it turns white and then either line the nappy with it or slap it on the skin direct.

I've never tried whisking it, I don't think you would need to. it would just be more work! I smeared some on the back of my hand and watched what happened. It dried very quickly and turned into a kind of skin. I think it just acts as a barrier, giving the sore part chance to heal.
I did find sudocrem worked for minor rashes, but sometimes, for no apparent reason, my little one gets, well, it's almost like a burn really, very very sore and the cream doesn't give it chance to dry out. I think it must depend on what he's eaten or drank. there must be a combination of a couple of things that just make his urine very strong. Unfortunately, I've yet to find out what they are!
Make mayonnaise with the yolks, or just add them to the pan to make a richer omelette than usual.
you can add egg yolks to melt4ed chocolate to make it richer and use extra egg whites to whisk up and fold in to make gorgeous chocolate mouse
