technophobe and speakers

being a complete technophobe i hope someone can help with yet another pc problem.my speakers have developed an annoying hissing sound on them making it almost impossible to listen to.I have tried another pair of speakers which i know to be ok so its obviously NOT the speakers.They are definatly plugged in ok.could it be my sound card? any suggestions to remidy the problem would be appriciated ..thanks

Has it suddenly started? Have you installed any new programs? It may be a driver problem so make sure you've got the latest drivers for your sound card. If all else fails I'd contact the manufacturer - they may well have a Q&A or a troubleshooter.
