I have successfully been connected by wireless to my laptop for about 2 months. Excellent connection levels achieved in the 2 parts of the house where I use my laptop which are not that far from the router. Last couple of days I have had great difficulty in connecting. This morning I had to take my laptop to the router to connect up and then carry it back to the other room when I can carry on working. I have had 2 long conversations with BT about this but it is all a mystery to me. They logged on to my system (from India I suspect) and changed me from 12 to 13 and when that didn't work from 13 to 11. I don't know what this means. This doesn't seem to have helped but they tell me that my system is fine and is working properly.
My feeling is that the signal has weakened as I have been able to connect for a month. How can I prove it? What is the solution?

It might be that there is something interfering with the signal, either in your house or a neighbours? What I think they were doing when changing from 13 to 11 etc was changing the channel that the signal is broadcast on from your router. You can do this easily yourself by logging into the router via your web browser and changing the settings on its homepage. You should have its address in your manual - i think it will start 198. then more numbers separated by a couple of dots. go thought all the channels until you find one that gives you a stronger signal. Try number 1 or 2 first.
Good luck.

Thanks Matt. I had a go but failed miserably. I tried channels 1 & 2 and could not reconnect. I then went back to channel 13 and still could not reconnect. Tried all types of troubleshooting on the web and through windows. In the end I had to call BT who said it was a simple problem, They had me up and running quickly but reset me to channel 11 which they say will be the best. They cannot tell me why I am suddenly having problems so I think I am back to square one.
I would go to John Lewis, buy a new router and see if that is the problem. If it doesn't fix it you can always take it back within 28 days and then you'll the problem lies elsewhere.
