re-appearing Word document

Every time I open a blank page in Office, an old document appears. I have deleted the original file but the offending page re-appears.
I delete the text and can create a new document but when I go to save it, the original document's file name appaers and has to be changed.
It's driving me nuts! Please can anyone help?
