I'm puzzled by the mozzillazine article. When I installed firefox, I didn't need to export my IE favourites, it just imported them direct from IE automatically!

If you click File/Import in Firefox, it will happilly import from IE without the need for exporting. It will put all your IE favourites in a bookmarks folder called "From Internet Explorer"
In firefox:

Bookmarks - manage bookmarks - file - import

And choose import from internet explorer.
