If I put software disks in my CD-ROM drive, nothing happens. I use Windows XP, so I don't think there's a compatibility problem. I've tried clicking Start and going to Run.... etc but all it keeps telling me to do is put a CD in the drive when I already have. What can be happening?

It could be one of a few things, but I would first try cleaning the CD & check for scratches. If that fails it maybe that your CD ROM doesn't recognise the media you have inserted. It also might be you need to update your drivers for your CD ROM, but I doubt this in reality as 99 percent of media drives don't need drivers to be installed before they can be used.
is this happening with all disks and would it be possible to try them on another computer?--have these disks which don't work ever worked b4?

Thanks. It's 3 brand new different bits of software. The CD drive seems to work fine as I have ripped a lot of CDs lately. In fact I have a lot of MP3 on the hard disk at the moment - could that be causing trouble?
what do u do after u chose run from the start menu?--have u tried double clicking on the icon for the drive the disks are in?--have u tried rt clicking on the icon for the drives the disks are in and choosing explore?--what results do u get for these attempts?
I don't think having MP3's on your hard disk is the problem unless you have very little space left. Have you used this form of media before ?
the amount and form of the data u have on ur hdd does not affect whether ur cd drive reads a cd--even if ur hdd is full the cd drive should still read the disk--only when it has done that and u try to install something will the amount of space on ur hdd be a factor
