Now I'm no expert but i'm pretty certain that your IP address is set by your ISP and should be different every time you go online. If you want or need a fixed IP address then you'll need to pay BT or someone similar a whole lot more money for one!

Every computer on the internet has an ip address.

You are either given one automatically by your ISP when you connect (this is called DHCP) or you have a permananet one.

thank-you for your answer (camioneur ) i only put that to get someones attention, because I want to set up a ip camera on the internet, but I do not know were to start.
My mum is disabled and while I am at work I could keep an eye on her because she is not good on her feet.
if you can help in anyway possible I would be very greatfull I have a trust nw-7100 remote camera, with a program called IP VIEW, I can see on the browser, on all five computers at home, but not on the internet at work
