I wonder if anyone can shed some light here... I installed a 30 day FREE trial of AVG on my pc about 10 days ago... i have a few probs on the pc anyway but today i had the pc on and all of a sudden the screen went blue and said windows had to close as it had detected a problem! It then completely shut down and took me a few attempts to re-boot. Anyway, then when it did re-boot it said that it had updated drive c and a few others. I assume that it has something to do with this installation as i also installed on my paernts' pc and now they say they are having problems connecting to the internet. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks

Not to me - and just about all of my domestic clients use AVG - either the free or the paid for version.
I've been using AVG for years without any problems. If you're using it for home use, there's a free forever version that would be a better choice.

Make sure that you only have 1 antivirus program on the computer. Make sure any older AV software is fully uninstalled before you put on the new AVG software. At this stage, it might be best to roll back to a restore point just before you installed AVG, make sure there is no other AV software on there, then reinstall the free version of AVG from scratch.

The acid test would be to delete it and install Avast which is also free but better, includes more features and is now being recommended by the more hands-on PC mags.

ALL of my domestic clients use it with no problems whatsoever.

Without knowing exactly what it said on the blue screen, there's not much I can tell you. It sounds like it could be a hardware problem though which AVG wouldn't cause.

Thanks for all your replies... i don't know much about the history of the pc as someone gave to me secondhand but it's a modern one and seems to work well. The only thing that did seem strange is that the floopy drive does'nt respond and a couple of times i had a little window popping up saying that th floppy drive had been detected on the pc as new hardware or something, this is weird as it won't work.

Also, if it's not an AVG problem then why is it affecting my parents pc too?
