I would heartily recommend ethernet cards and a crossover CAT5 cable as it is cheap, easy to setup and has the best bandwith (100 Mbs). I have never networked PCs with a USB cable and am not 100% sure you can.
Yup, I'm with j2buttonsw on this one! It is possible to network PC's on USB but not without some other funky tool which probably costs a bomb, anyway thats what i heard. I obviously didn't really pay much attention cause I'd never use USB to network as its top transfer rate only 10Mbs. SO, It would cost more to network using USB and your data tranfer rate would be soooo slow. You can pick up a network card for nothing, and the cable is just as cheap, go network card my friend!
