I don't have an I-pod but if it's the same as my mp3 player it needs to be plugged in then switched on to accept data?. Sorry if I sound obvious. If it worked for you before perhaps it or the cable is faulty. Or do you need to use the same usb socket on your computer, perhaps only one socket has designated to it? good luck!
blink: have you tried having iTunes closed, plugging iPod in, waiting a few seconds, and then running iTunes? Usually after a few seconds it detects the iPod for you. Still nothing?

yea i've tried that as well thanks though fo3nix i might try getting a new cable and seeing if that works.
Next thing to do is reset your iPod, and then try connecting it and seeing it iTunes will recognise it. It'll say how to do this in your manual.

Still not work? Try running the iPod Update program, which can fix some errors that may have occured.
