copying in windows xp

hi i have a sony laptop. on every other laptop i hav eused I can select stuff and ask it to copy to a disc....however it does not allow me to right click and send it the the dvd drive to copy it...and yes it is a writer dvd drive not just a reader dvd drive....hope this makes snese...also it seems to have added a dvd drive that is a phantom one that does not exist...any ideas...thanks
