Perhaps the steering wheel needs setting up in the game's settings, or maybe the game doesn't fully support the model of steering wheel you're using. GT3 and GT4 are particularly picky about which steering wheels to use.

Thanks, GT4 is the offending game, do you know which wheel works best with it?

in my experience cheap steering wheels are a complete waste of money.logitech's wheel range comes highly recommended,i believe.
