You need to buy a ROUTER. This will split the single incoming broadband to allow it to be used by 2 or more PCs or laptops.

If you want to connect the PC and laptop to the Router via cables you need a WIRED ROUTER. If you want to use the wireless on the laptop you need a WIRELESS ROUTER.

Search in here, or on the internet, for ROUTER for more about how to set them up.

Or search on Home Network in the Windows XP help.

Or if you don't intend to use the desktop and the laptop on the internet at the same time, you can just install your ISP software on the laptop, and plug the modem into it.
Sorry - please ignore my post. I didn't the 'wireless' in your question.

Good luck.
You can also put a wireless card into your desktop PC and create an ad-hoc wireless network (no router), and use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the main PC to connect the laptop to the internet. The main problem with this is that in order to connect to the internet on the laptop, the desktop PC needs to be switched on.
