Which Broadband option should I get?

I am planning on getting BT Broadband but I don't want to pay any more money than I need to. At present my computer has two safety installations: AVG Anti-Virus and Ad-aware 6.0. Is anyone able to tell me if this is adequate for BT Broadband option 1, or will I have to get option 2 unless I install more safety installations?

Thanks.

to get broadband, you do not need av or a firewall as net access is at your own risk.it is in your own interest to get these not the provider's.Also,ad-aware will only stop spyware,if you are not running a firewall you are at risk from hackers.
If money is an immediate consideration then it may be worth noting that BT charge you 3 months in advance so (like me) you get a surprise on an unexpected bill although obviously you have nothing to pay for 3 months.
Ive had no problem with the service or connection, but Id suggest you clarify with them that you CAN get the 2mb speed they advertise - they have a caveat of Up to 2Mb.
I had a major haggle with them over this - and you can get cheaper 1mb connections (which they initially tried to lumber me with).
Also remember theyve got you by the short and curlies if you have a billing query.
Adequate firewalls and spyware etc. are available free to download.
Just some things to consider. Hope this helps.

Its not as simple as that.I can receive 'up to 2Mb' where I am but I had no end of trouble with it.

End of March there is meant to be a nationwide exchange upgrade meaning that practically everyone can receive 2Mb or higher as a minimum.

If you need a firewall there is a free one available here: -

It was pretty straightforward for me Matt, prior to signing I stipulated I wanted a 2mb and would suffer the capped access that BT offer to which they agreed.

Having checked my connection speed I found it was only 1mb - which you can get as an unlimited access package from numerous other ISPs (and cheaper). So I made my point with some numpty in Bangalore, finally got put through to someone with a basic grasp of English and miraculously I was up to 2mb within a couple of days. I can't believe the flannel they give you!
I have had Tiscali Broadband for a year now,no limits and cheap phone calls. 14.99 per month. Never had a problem.
