If you buy a sky plus box from a 3rd party (ie not from sky) do you still have to pay the 10/ month subscription? Thanks

Of course not. Just in the same way as if you buy a secondhand tv you don't need a licence, and if you buy a secondhand car you don't need to tax or insure it. ;-b

Despite trying to be clever your answer is of no help at all and makes no sense.

Contact sky and ask them.

A sky+ box (that includes a hard disk) has to have 2 cables connecting it to the satellite dish or it will not be able to record one channel while watching another.

If you already have a single Sky cable, and a Sky card, then it MAY work (but I think the engineer who came and did mine had to register the box with Sky over the phone).
