My PC has seemed to have developed a strange problem whenever I boot up. Windows XP reports that my Norton AntiVirus is switched off, however when I check the AntiVirus settings within SystemWorks, it reports that the AntiVirus is enabled. Which one do I believe - Windows or Norton System Works?

Thanks.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

you could try downloading several zipped or .rar'd files from a dodgy source and virus checking them. as long as you dont unzip/unrar them you wont get infected and if norton detects the virae then all is well.

seriously though, did you download this copy of norton or is it legit? also are the virus definitions updated and is your update subscription still valid? also go to antivirus options and make sure that the enable auto protect, start auto protect automaticaly with windows and enable auto protect icon in task bar are all ticked.
Ever since I got SP2 this message will occasionally come up, if you do nothing for a minute it will go away again. I think Windows checks before Norton has a chance to start (but is in the process of starting).

Yep,

I think BILLY is right.
