I have compiled a CD of photos of an event I attended, in jpg format, and have sent it to some of the other attendees. One of them, running on Windows98, finds that they open in web format and are so badly oversized that he can see only a part of each picture at a time.
Is there a (free) program he could download that would sort that out? If he's running Windows98 his PC probably doesn't have enormous amounts of memory.

If they are using Internet Explorer 6 then there is an option to resize the pictures automatically, tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Mutimedia, enable Automatic Image resizing. Alternatively they could download Irfanview a free multimedia viewer/editor which can be set to fit images to the screen as well as many other options.
Just a second vote for the wonderful Irfanview program. Everyone should have this software on their PC. It's really easy to set up and use (although, for experienced users, it offers many advanced options). I've loaded a copy onto my friends elderly PC, running Windows 98, and there are no problems with resources.

Thank you both very much. I'll get him to read this and we'll see how he gets on.

when I downgraded my PC to Windows 2000 I found that XnView was more similar to XP and easier to work with than IrfanView.

Or alternatively your friend could put that same disc into a DVD player

Thanks, spacechimp.

Thanks, stevie. I didn't get any joy when I put the CD into my Pioneer DVD player. The player works OK with the 'Millionaire' interactive CD but it didn't do anything with mine except look black. Is there somthing specific I should do?

Thanks, everybody! My friend is now sorted. I'm posting an extract from his happy email in case it helps anyone else similarly placed.

"Firstly, I followed the advice from your link and went into tools - internet options - advanced - multimedia but I couldn't find the box to enable "automatic image sizing".

I have since realised that I was not running on Internet Explorer6 but an earlier edition, I then typed in "Microsoft Windows Update" in Google and downloaded the latest updates, this in due course upgraded my Internet Explorer to version 6 and hey presto the photographs appeared as "normal" size."

Again, thank you all very much!
