What Would You Do Faced With This Situation?

I have been put into a bit of a quandary.

A work colleague was convicted of drink driving on 28th March, and lost his licence that day.

So we've known for a while he can't drive.

Yet today I seen him driving his girlfriends car.

My quandary is do I keep it to myself?

I have zero evidence, only what I seen with my own eyes, no registration details or anything.

If I tried to report it to the Police they probably wouldn't entertain it because its my word against his.

I'm not even sure if he seen me, but I regognised her car and of course him driving it.

He's banned for 3 years, so how long will he drive as a banned driver in that 3 years and get away with it?

I can't even bring myself to tell my work colleagues or management. Would they even believe me?

Buenchico,

I did that thanks mate, only lack of evidence I have is the car registration.

It may have been a critical journey (a friend of mine was caught taking a close friend to A&E) and unlikely to be repeated, so your concerns about the long term may be unjustified. If he makes a habit of it then will quite likely be caught. Are you in a position to mention it to him?

I would report it. An emergency is no excuse, people without a car have to deal with emergencies too.

If he gets away with it once, he won't stop

I suspect many banned drivers continue to drive either occasionally or even regularly. I would report it giving as much information as I could.

Agree with Barry.

If you have reported is anonymously then Plod will still make a note of it and patrolling cars will keep an eye open for it.

Theyo Davebro and most get caught.  Plod are not as stupid as many think they are.

also if he is banned he can't be insured so that's another concern...

He would also face a charge of taking the car without the owner's consent or his girlfriend could be charged with allowing a banned driver to drive her car.

The police have arrested many people as they drove away from court immediately after being banned. Can't cure stupidity

Canary42,

It definetly wasn't a critical journey as he was exiting a coop shop.

And no one else in the car.

Report it. The police might be able to get CCTV footage from the co-op

If I tried to report it to the Police they probably wouldn't entertain it because its my word against his.

You'd be surprised.

Your evidence may not be strong enough to convict him. But driving whilst disqualified is one of the offences which, surprisingly, the police do take seriously.

If you report your findings to them, the police may keep an extra eye on him with patrols near his house or work. I have seen a number of disqualified drivers convicted in these circumstances.

Do let us know what happens please Quenched.
