If you are on XP you just hold down the left button of the mouse and drag.

If you right click on the desktop there is a menu that comes up which has options like "arrange icons by" which may need to be turned off.

Turned off autoarrange and it worked perfectly, thanks.
Why not go to the file where your wallpaper is saved and then right click on it and choose edit and then flip the picture horizontally.

I've got a similar problem and I'm on XP as well. I like my icons in a certain order ..but every time I do a restart, or plug in my ipod or similar..the whole lot reorganise themselves...never the same way twice! And auto-arrange isn't on. Any sugs anybody? I tried asking this some months back but nobody could come up with an answer.
