What doesn't work? Doesn't turn on, connect to the Internet? More info please
I assume that it's because your wi-fi signal doesn't reach that far.
Question Author
That's it Chris. No WiFi. Can I do anything about it?
Question Author
Which one, Jim?
It depends how long your garden is, Tilly2. If you won't be too far from your house when using your tablet, a simple wi-fi extender (positioned as close as possible to the garden) should do the trick:

If you've got a smartphone with enough data you could turn the WiFi hot-spot on and tether your phone to that, wirelessly
Or you can buy a really long Ethernet cable, plug it in, and then drag the other end outdoors with yourself.

Was that helpful?

No, it isn't, ozzy, because you forgot to tell her to buy an OTG ethernet adapter to go with it
Crap Baz, silly me ;-)
I tether my tablets when I'm out of reach of my WiFi, works very well.
I'm such a techno fool.

Memo to self, get with it old man!

Thank you all for your diverse answers. Having looked at the possibilities, I'll just stay indoors.

All a bit complicated for my limited capabilities.
Tilly, it really isn't hard to tether your tablet to your phone. If you have a smart phone and want to do it, I'll walk you through the three easy steps

Will you be around later Barry? We need to get Dylan out for a walk. Back later and thank you.

Should be.
If your tablet has a sim tray you can simply take the sim card out of your phone and pop it in the tablet
Question Author
Hello Barry, What do I do then?
No SIM card slot on the tablet? No problem

Assuming your smartphone is Android:
On the phone, swipe down from top and tap on the 'hotspot' icon. You will be asked to create a password.

On the tablet, go to 'settings' and click on WiFi to see the connections
You should see your phone listed - tap on that and enter the password

That's it. If you have any problems, come back. Don't give up :)
Also it's important to note you need good 4G signal on your phone to make it a hotspot (and it eats into your data). This apparently simple method wouldn't work in my garden, nowhere near good enough signal.
