We have had our Hotpoint (or is it Hoover.. I can’t remember offhand) for the best part of 30 years and it’s only had to have the mechanic out a handful of times. We think it’s now coming to the end of its active life, so we are on the look out for a replacement. The instruction manual is long gone so I don’t have a clue to its specifications… does anyone know how I can work out its drum capacity, please. It doesn’t seem that big, and we want to replace it with a bigger drum capacity model. Cheers, Chox

14kg is quite big, better too much capacity than not enough.
From about £400.
Somewhere on the machine ( probably on the door inside , or on the rear of the machine ) should be the machine model number

Google that to find details of the spec

You could put a load in the machine then remove it and weigh and weigh the clothes.

If you put them in a bag or bags, you could either weigh the bag(s) or weigh yourself with and without the bag(s) and work out the weight of the clothes that way.
By "drum capacity", what do you mean? It's easy enough to measure the dimensions of the drum and get it's actual capacity in (say) litres - but that won't tell you about how much laundry it will cope with, which is measured by weight (kg).
^The problem with TCL's idea is that a full load of cottons will weigh a lot more than a full load of synthetics.

It’s the hoover software 800, I am trying to find how much capacity, in kg, the drum has.
We have a 10kg model which is fine for most things and one of the bigger capacity drums but what the advertising doesn't tell you is that there are only a few of the settings on the machine that it can actually take that amount. Most of the washes are for smaller loads and if you put the full 10kg in it wont clean properly. Most of the new ones are like this and what the engineer told us is that the older machines were much better and more reliable than the new ones.
Do you mean Hoover Soft Wave 800? There seems to be a few different models with that name including a washer dryer. If you can find the model number that might help.
There are YouTube videos and online manuals that might help
If I were buying a washing machine I would buy the biggest drum and the fastest spin.
I would consider an ebac as they are made in the UK and have a 7 year warranty. Good reviews, too
Question Author
Barry1010, have never hear of the make “eBac” before. Please tell me more, cheers Chox.
chokkie, I am banging the Ebac drum primarily because they are genuinely made, not just assembled, in the UK. Some models have a 7 year warranty that includes parts and labour and every machine comes with a 60 day buy back guarantee. One of the few manufacturers to still make hot fill machines, if that is what you want. Cold fill only, too.

The downside is the price. They are not amongst the cheapest.

Their website has all the details and a video of their factory, worth a look

Thanks for this recommendation - not so fussed about the price (and I doubt that any new machine would last for half as long as we've had this Hoover "clockwork"/analogue washer), just something of larger capacity. does any one in AB-land have a Hoover softwave 800 washer only (Model AC326) that they just might have the manual for. Can't seem to find it anywhere on line ... Cheers, Chox.
I can't find a manual for that particular model and as it's so old I would be surprised if anyone here could help. I can't even find any reference to it on the Hoover site but you could try entering the product code here:
