Transfering CDs

In order to convert a CD to mp3 files, I usually just put in the CD, and a box comes up with options: Play with Windows Media/Play with Realplayer/save tracks to PC using Realplayer etc.

If I click on Save tracks, I can save them to my PC and therefore they become mp3s which I can then email.

The problem is, sometimes the box just doesn't come up when the CD is put in. Is there an easier way to convert a CD to mp3s without having to load specific software?

once the cd is in, go to Windows Media Player and one of the options on the left hand side allows you to "copy from cd", to your hard drive. Easiest way.

Hi spaced,

I have nothing on the left of my windows media player- just the weird patterns. I tried to RIP music from CD but got this message:

Windows Media Player cannot rip tracks from the CD correctly because the CD drive settings in Device Manager do not match the CD drive settings in the Player.

In Media Player, try going to Tools --> Options --> Devices, and for each device (CD-Rom or DVD-Rom that you are ripping music from) go to Properties and set both Playback and Rip to Digital.

See if that works...

Hi Matt,

When the media player comes up all I have at the top is: Now playing/library/rip/burn/Synch and Guide. I think this is the problem. Any idea how I can get it with "tools"?

Sure :)

In the top-right corner where the Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons are, there is a little triangle pointing down. You can access the Tools menu from there, and if you want to see the Tools menu in the "Standard" way, choose Show Menu Bar under the pointy down arrow :)
