Laptop Shortage

According to an advertising blurb I received today, there is a laptop shortage which is likely to continue for some time. The e-mail said:-

"Hi [Canary],
If you're looking to replace your old laptop, you're in for a surprise. Current computers prices are high, and the supply is limited! Due to a chip shortage and supply chain issues, it'll likely be a while before we’re back to having low cost options and abundant inventory."

I wonder whether this is true or just marketing hype.

There are chip shortages, car manufactures are struggling for the same reason.

It's probably also marketing hype.

It's absolutely true - partly due to so many firms purchasing gear to allow their employees to work from home, partly due to chip shortages caused by covid related shutdowns in other countries, and partly due to logistics and supply chain problems for the same reasons.
