I'm new to this digital lark... I'm getting a Canon Ixus 50 for Christmas & I know it'll come with a memory card but I'd like to buy a better one, but don't know what sort I need to buy... there seem to be so many to choose from! Can't check the instruction book coz Santa has it!!

There are a number of different memory card formats, but they are all slightly different size and shape so you need to get the right format for your camera.

As far as I can see the Canon Ixus 50 takes something called the "SD Memory Card" format.

It looks like the camera comes with a 16 Mb (Megabyte) card, which too be honest is pretty useless as you will only get about 8 pictures on it.

Memory cards go up in different sizes, the more Mb (megabytes) the more pictures you can get on it.

So my guess is you can probably get 32Mb, 64Mb, 128Mb, 256Mb, 512Mb and so on.

Obviously buy the biggest you can afford.

Any make of SD Memory card should fit in your camera, and if possible get a make that is a known brand (Canon, Panasonic etc).

You will probably find that Argos for example do some SD Memory Cards.

p.s. I may be worth going into Jessops just to double check the Ixus 50 does in fact take SD Memory cards.

Hi

I buy my memory cards from MX2, very competitive and VAT free. Go to google.co.uk, insert mx2 and explore their site. Compare them to Argos and Jessop's respectively.
