my mum has a mobile with an o2 sim pay as you go ,her 1st 10.00 top up lasted her for nearly 18 months as she only used it for emergencies ,then she treated herself to a new phone (same sim) and discovered the joys of texting ,she noticed that her credit was going down at an alarming rate then found she was paying up to 60p to send a text message ,every time she sends a text she is charged a different rate ,36p,24p.46p,12p.the 60p text was to another o2 number -i'm t mobile sometimes to me it's 12p then it's 24p -can anyone make head or tail of these charges?

........Sorry can't give straight answer. There seems to be as many different charges as there are phonrecompanies..that is, I suppose, one of the "joys of texting "you mentioned
Just a thought (and I don't know this) - is she sending very long texts - ie a normal text is 12p, but if it needs to be sent in two parts it is 24p, three parts 36p ,etc

You should try and pick up one of the o2 Online sim cards - you get 300 free texts if you top up 10 in a month, but it's still pay as you go.

You can also keep your number with a couple of calls to customer service.
