What are Proxy settings?

Can anyone advise on this please? I'm trying to download a TV stream but it says the server may not be on line or my proxy settings are not configured properly. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Unless you are running a proxy server it is very unlikely that you have to put in proxy settings. A proxy server is a computer that is connected directly to the internet and "shares" this connection with other computers on the network. This is done using microsoft internet connection sharing or server products such as microsoft proxy server or microsoft ISA (internet security and acceleration) server.
