Connecting Infrared device to pc

I have a Nokia 6230i mobile and purchased an infrared device. I do noit under how to connect it to my pc and ownload the contacts. I connected the infrared device to the pc then to my phone, inserted the disc which came with the device. got it to connect ok but then my phone just said contacts - ok - messages- ok i pressed accept, but nothing happened. second time it asked me to choose one of the following files, lotus etc not sure how i actually get it to download. Any hel pleased. Thanks
