I would hate this if it were me! I can think of nothing worse than neighbours coming out and clapping for me and putting up flags, etc

Hmmm... it's the thought that counts though. Like people singing "happy birthday " to you :-)
I would try and sneak into the house under cover of darkness.
Shows just how popular he is among his neighbours. Bet he's chuffed to bits.
nice to be noticed. I was on sick leave for two months once and when I came back people just asked if I'd been on holiday.
I think it's lovely.

I agree that the thoughts are good, but after coming out of hospital even for a short spells, all I would want to do would be to get in quickly and settle down with my family. It's really difficult to adjust to the world even after shorter spells in hospital.
No, you’re not alone apc, I’d hate it too.
I dislike any kind of fuss, and prefer not to be noticed whenever possible. I just like to be left to get on with my life in my own way.
I’d hate it

I suppose it's up to the individual.
I think it was rather nice - it can't hurt his recovery for him to know he was missed & that his neighbours are happy he's home.
I hate being centre of attention, I'm a sideline person lol. But once I got in, I would actually appreciate their effort x

Every time I have come out of hospital all I have wanted to do was quickly get indoors and chill in peace and quiet after all the noise of hospitals. I wouldnt want peoplev to pop round snd see me either - only close friends and fsmily after a few days. But neighbourhoods are all different.
At least they noticed you'd not been there jno;-)
I don't like fuss either - don't 'do' birthdays and all that - but this is a lovely gesture borne out of kindness. I can't knock that.

My 'a' always ends up as an 's' on this tablet!
Question Author
I agree its done of kindness, but I wouldn't do it. I might go round with a small gift but not straight away.
My family organised a surprise party for me once. I hated it ... but I smiled anyway. It was their pleasure - not mine. I wouldn't have dreamt of spoiling it for them.

I loved parties in my teens and twenties. I was a refs party animal. I am now the opposite. As for people clapping me out in the street......
