Could anyone tell me what is happening to my computer's mouse?

I do not seem to have any control over it's pointer, I point it in a certain direction and instead of straying and it will shoot off in a different direction.

Is there some floof on the bottom of the mouse?
Have had the same in the past, you will need a new one.
I can only assume you are eagerly trying to click into the answer box, but are unable to. This image brings a sad yet humerus picture to mind. Especially in this heat.

Try unplugging the mouse, then plugging it back in.

Try cleaning the bottom of the mouse.

Replace batteries if they're needed

Try a different USB port

Try changing the surface you're using the mouse on
You don't say whether the mouse is corded or cordless. If cordless it could be getting interference, so try a different location for the receiver; also try new batteries. If it's one of the old-style roller-ball mice remove the ball and clear out any fluff etc.

Thanks guys for your help, sorry late in getting back to you, I had visitors.

But it seems as if the rest has done it some good, the mouse seems to be behaving itself now.
If the rest has done it good and it's cordless, a change of batteries might be in order.

It is a corded one.
Dodgy connection ?
Maybe good to buy a cheap spare mouse AOG for when your one finally packs up.. It seems it's already on the blink.
