Have you tried saving the document in RTF(Rich Text Format) Jenny. I think that Word can read that format. Then post it again.
I'd save it as a pdf.
I would as well Prudie but I am not sure that all word versions read pdf. All word versions will read rtf.
JJ can you save your letter with a .doc extension, which is normal word format, your file may think it's a word document then?
In the link Jenny.

1.So, let's say you've already finished the creation or edition of a text document (if you have any doubts about basic document creation end editing you can visit our previous tutorial) and you want to save it to your folders either for later edition, reading or sending it via e-mail, all you have to do is to go to File → Save.

2.There are two other saving options: Save As... and Save Copy... Both of them will take you to an explorer like dialog, here you can browse to the folder where you want to store the new format or copy of the document .

3.These two options are pretty much the same but there is a fundamental difference, Save As... opens a dialog box to save the open document but changing its name, file type, or both closing the old and opening the new for edition, and Save Copy... works pretty much like "Save As...", with the difference that you can continue editing the document under its original name. This kind of saving is extremely handy when you need to save partial or incremental backups of your text/document at different composition points.

Appears you can.

I am trying to download Open Office - so downloaded and it is asking me to save file - with a big blue bouncy arrow pointing to the icons to the top. When I save file in the red balloon it brings me back to beginning you know as to start all over again
Question Author
zacs - I;m poor - don't have a scanner. LOL
When you say that "you don't have the modern phone for" do you mean that your phone will not take photos. If it will, you can just photograph the bill and email it to yourself from the phone using the share with option in the photo gallery. Or have you got a pal or relative that can take a snap and email it to you. Once on your pc you can forward it.

I did have my address on my drivers licence and got that through but it is a current bill they are looking for
Just paid £35 for a wireless printer / scanner.
Check and see if open office is indeed in your app. lists or you may be loading it multi times. If you have installed it more than once get rid of the surplus copies.
If your utility bills are paid on line you can file a copy of the latest bill and forward it.
JJ do you or a friend have an iPad or digital camera that you can use to take photo of your utility bill.
